WASPS LOSE OUT AGAIN
London Wasps faced yet another defeat in the Aviva Premiership as the Chiefs thrashed the London Wasps 15 to 12 at Adam’s Park.
It was Ignacio Mieres who took five very crucial penalties for the Chiefs that put the Wasps in a tight spot.
The Chiefs kept their defence line intact and safe despite tremendous pressure from the Wasps over long periods of time. The Wasps in response took one less penalty than the Chiefs that made all the difference in this match.
These penalties were taken by Nick Robinson who converted the penalties successfully to keep his team in the game.
WASPS TAKE A BEATING
London Wasps took a huge blow in the Aviva Premiership after losing to their rivals at Kingsholm.
Gloucester was in great shape and form as they took on their rivals London Wasp. They played some exceptional rugby to thrash the Wasps heavily in the much awaited fixture.
This embarrassing loss at the hands of their rivals will come as a big shock to the London Wasps. The loss for the London Wasps saw them drop down to the ninth spot in the league table while Gloucester climbed up to the fifth point.
KOLL SIGNS FOR WASPS
Wasps have brought in further reinforcements for their pack with the signing of Namibian second rower, Heinz Koll until the end of the season.
Koll will link up with his compatriot Tinus Du Plessis, who he starred alongside during the recent World Cup.
Koll impressed for Namibia, starting all four of his counties pool games, scoring a try against Wales which showed off his impressive ball carrying and strength. He broke and ran 40 yards with the ball to score against one of the most impressive sides at the tournament.
MARGIN BETWEEN WINNING AND LOSING IS TINY
Wasps’ attacking coach Paul Turner believes the margins between winning and losing will be small in Saturday’s clash with Bayonne. Both clubs have won their opening two games in their Challenge Cup group and the next two fixtures, between the two sides could prove decisive in determining the outcome of the group.
WASPS SIGN ARGENTINEAN PROSPECTS
London wasps have signed promising Argentinian players by loaning them. The 22-year-old, currently with Buenos Aires side La Plata, has played 10 times for Argentina Jaguars.
He has also represented his country at Under-20 level and in the 2008 Junior World Championships.
"It's very exciting to be given the opportunity to come to England and play with such a great club," he said.
"This is a big challenge for me and I hope I can impress enough in the first half of the season to secure the longer-term deal.
WASPS SIGN WENTZEL
Wasps have signed Leeds captain Marco Wentzel in an astonishing coup. The 32-year-old has spent the last four seasons in the Premiership, the first two of them with Leicester before moving to Headingley in 2009.
"It was a hard decision for me to leave Leeds," said Wentzel.
"But, on the other hand I am really looking forward to join a club with a proud history like Wasps."
Wentzel is the second player to leave West Yorkshire for west London, following the lead of England hooker Steve Thompson, whose move was announced on 2 May before Leeds' relegation was confirmed.
WARD LEAVES WASPS
Wasps hooker Joe Ward has said that he will be joiningPremiership rivals Sale Sharks come the summer after signing a new two-year contract.
The 30-year-old, who was born in New Zealand but has played for England Saxons, has scored seven tries in 117 games for Wasps since arriving in 2005.
Ward signed a two-year deal at Adams Park last year.
Sharks executive director of sport Steve Diamond said: "Joe has been one of the top performers in the Premiership over the last six seasons."
HANKS LEAVES WASPS
Wasps director of rugby Tony Hanks has left the club after 21 months in charge by mutual consent.
The Londoners have won only one of their last six games and are currently sixth in the Premiership.
New Zealander Hanks said: "I am naturally disappointed to be leaving the club, and this has been a really tough decision to come to."
Head coach Shaun Edwards will take charge of the squad for this weekend's game against Leicester.
Wasps say they will begin searching for a permanent replacement immediately.
WASPS DEFEATED IN FIRST OVERSEAS FIXTURE
The London Wasps were defeated by Harlequins in the first overseas fixture held in Rugby history. Karl Dickson, George Lowe and Ceri Jones crossed to help Quins to a 24-8 half-time lead, Tom Varndell replying for Wasps, nominally the home side.
Dickson's second gave Harlequins a bonus point, before Joe Launchbury hit back for Wasps.
But Quins had the final word, Sam Smith crossing after Tom Williams' long kick.
