London Wasps sign Thompson from Jersey

Aviva Premiership Rugby Football Union club the London Wasps have confirmed on their official website that they have reached an agreement to sign Guy Thompson from Jersey ahead of the new season of the Aviva Premiership.

The 26 year old Thompson was in scintillating form for Jersey and scored seven Championship tries for the club and was the club’s top scorer in the recently concluded season. He had agreed a new deal to stay at the island side for the upcoming season as well, but now, he will make the step up to the Aviva Premiership with The Wasps.

Dai Young, the Director of Rugby at the London side, stated that the performances of the player in the Rugby Football Union Championship this season has made people sit up and take notice of his prodigious talents. He added that the player is an explosive runner and he is someone who can scare off defenses with his blistering pace as well as power. The London Wasps boss also stated that the ability of the player to play across the back row will be extremely important and they cannot wait to see how he does at the very top level of professional rugby in England.

Guy Thompson is a product of the youth academy of Gloucester Rugby but he failed to make the cut at the club and left to join Richmond from where he moved to Jersey back in 2011, helping the team to promotion in his first season at the club.

The player himself is also excited about his move to the London Wasps and also thanked Jersey for the support they have given him for the last two years and cannot wait to start at the top level of domestic rugby for the first time in his career as well.
