Aviva Premiership Rugby Union side the London Wasps has completed the signing of winger James Bailey from the French side Lyon in order to mount a serious challenge for the title that they haven’t won in the last 4 years.
With talks of a takeover looming large over the London side, the team has gone about quietly about their transfer business and has snapped up the speedy wingman just 24 hours after they completed the signing of Andrea Masi from the defunct Italian club Aironi.
The 28 year old Bailey is a former international for the England national team in the Under-21 age group and has spent 3 years away from the British shores after stints with Bristol Rugby, Gloucester Rugby as well as the London Irish. Speaking about his move, the winger stated that although he thoroughly enjoyed his time in France with Lyon, he always knew that it was his destiny to return to England at some point in his career and added that the opportunity to play for the London Wasps was too good to pass up.
Dai Young, the Director of Rugby of the London club believes Bailey will prove to be an important piece of the puzzle in the side and will play an integral part in the team as he looks to build a side capable of challenging for titles in the near future, both at home and in Europe. After the arrival of Lee Thomas, the Welsh centre, Bailey becomes the second player from Lyon to be brought to the club by Young.
According to Young, there is a lot of depth in the side at the moment and all they lacked was some experience on the wings and with the arrival of Bailey that problem is more or less sorted for the London Wasps.
