Staibano Signs for London Wasps

Aviva Premiership side the London Wasps has announced the capture of Italian tight head prop Fabio Staibano on a one year contract to play at Adams Park for the 2012/13 season as the club looks to improve on their second last placed finish in the league and to revive the glory days during which the club had won 3 championships in 4 seasons.

The 29 year old Italian has been signed on a free and arrives from Aironi after the license of the club was revoked by the Italian Rugby Federation based on financial grounds and the club was dissolved.

Having played at Castres as well as Overmach Parma before joining Aironi, the Italian is exactly the kind of player with a mixture of youth and experience that the management at the London Wasps are looking for to return the club to the glory days of before and if the signing of Staibano is anything to go by, fans of the club can expect many big name signings to come in the next few days. Plenty of other Italian and French clubs were interested in signing the big tight head prop but he ignored the overtures of those clubs to sign for The Insects as he considers them to have the ambition and drive that he desires.

Staibano was a part of the Italian side that played in the Six Nations Grand Slam earlier in the year and when asked about his signing for the Aviva Premiership side, stated that he was excited at the prospect of turning out for the club in one of the best domestic leagues in the world.
Dai Young, the Director of Rugby of the London Wasps was also happy that they could finally secure the services of a man they had tracked for some time now.
